Delirium Tremens in Greece!

Delirium Tremens will be presented on June 4&5 at the Sofouli Theatre in Thessaloniki/Greece, and on June 9-12 at the Roes Theatre in Athens, during the dance festival of the Greek Choreographer's Association.

The premiere of Delirium Tremens was on April 23d, 2010 at the National Choreographic Center of Tours, in France.

Delirium Tremens is a quest for a new optimism in response to the anxieties of a troubled new century. With humor and gestural poetry, this solo questions individualism and narcissism by using clichés from the movie industry.
« Cultural exoticism, Hollywood images, and the incoherence that seems to govern our actions, dreams and thoughts, become here raw material. Letting ourselves be touched by who we are without judgment (?) and share what resonates inside with others. In this solo one can see video images on TV, cinema characters realizing tests of madness, explosive energy, semi-improvised monologues, and sensitive dances.» [D. T.]
The images on the TV monitors are the only elements of the stage design. A mix of intimate scenes and the omnipresent mass media.

Dimitrios Tsiapkinis received a grant from the Greek ministry of Culture for the production of Delirium Tremens, with his newly established company The Lotus Fracture.

The opening of the festival i Trôtra (pronounce the "r" the american way) is on september the 30th. I worked with young, non professional, dancers this time and it was a moving experience. Bernardo Montet worked with the professional dancers. In one of the poorest countries in the world with high corruption I have the chance to realize once more, how deeply existential dance is. The urgency to create newtopias, even ephemeral, and live them through embodiment is a state of "freedom" and a source of inspiration; inspiration to live through regimes like the one in Madagascar and have visions of a "better" world...
Freedom in greek : ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΙΑ, means openness to that which will come; openness to the unknown...

Dance in Chile

Third and last day of the workshops taught by Bernardo Montet and Dimitri Tsiapkinis in the University of Santiago / School of the Arts.
Sharing experience, mouvement and dance theories.
We also participated in a conference about Bernardo's approach to dance with video excerpts, and also about the role of National choréographic centers in France.
We conluded the conference with a dance improvisation between me and the Chilian musician Pajaro.
We were assisted by Andrea Muñoz who also captured the image of this note.
I will stay for one more week to visit Santiago, Valparaiso and Serena.

Sharing dance in Madagascar

My first week in Antananarivo in Madagscar is full of creativity and emotion...
I'm teaching young dancers from the island and a few from the African continent and it's a very warm hearted group. We dive into body consciousness together and then, progressively, into high energy mouvement behaviour...There follows an improvisation course and they make me dream away!
The workshop was organized by the Cultural Center Albert Camus and the CCNT.
Bernardo Montet will join me to finish the workshop together but also to dance his solo "Batracien, l'après-midi"!
Of course there are also "negative" emotions when seeing the poverty in the city...Apparently there are 25000 homeless here... :-(
How much energy and food do we spend, and on what?
Living conscioussly becomes more & more urgent, but I also keep receiving good news!
The world is changing! Keep creating your utopias!

My news...

This past week I spent time in Paris for a conference named Body in Action and for dance classes.
Body in Action was organized by the College de France and it was dedicated to the French philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty. I did not attend the second day for it was very dense and most information concerned neurophysiology research : my expertise was far from enough! One participants, Anne Fagot-Largeault was very inspiring though, and suggested concepts that reminded me of the Integral Theory! And then I took a few dance classes : from release technique to fusion-modern jazz! Ah...dancing!!! Poverty, humanity, richness, spirit was there in Paris...Like everywhere else...There's work to be done!

I've been busy a lot lately...
The Môm'Arts festival in CCNT, La Marche des Anges organization etc...
Being in love made me disappear a bit more than usual : intensity transforms being...

Some people are writing university thesis on subjects like this...and some others observe the birds flying...and some others...
Another reason I did not update my blogs was the fact that my internet provider has technical problems for 5 weeks now!

I have to assume this role...
Am I being pretentious?
Representing the myth of Europe through a dancer's body?
Plus, 23 children & teenagers singing and acting around me?
A cultural alliance of european cities will be the pretext for this attempt. The 16th of March in the city hall of Tours.
I will test my capacity to per - form and also my capacity to receive and transmit at the same time...

What does an all encompassing space do naturally?

kamala dancing!

As I said before :
I knew that Kamala is a great dancer but seeing that video makes me want to see more!!!
She will be dancing the 6th & 7th of March
at Southbank Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hall, London!

Plus, she will be teaching in a workshop for the company.

generated from contemporary dance and the Indian classical dance form Bharata Natyam. Shobana Jeyasingh has created a uniquely contemporary language: the work is also informed by the diverse movement cultures that her dancers bring into the studio (Capoeira and Kalari, among others). SJDC's Company Workshops provide an exciting opportunity for advanced and professional level dancers to experience SJDC training techniques and learn the new repertoire Faultline.
Company dancers Saju Hari and Kamala Devam will lead the workshops.
